Starting Saturday, tourists can only go to the Nepalese side of the Himalayas with a local mountain guide or porter from a government-registered trekking company. It was decided by the Nepal Tourism Board, made up of representatives of the government and the tourism industry, which justified its decision by trying to increase the safety of tourists in the mountains and create jobs for local residents.
