“In February, production hit the high bases of last February and this January, and less favorable weather also contributed to the decline. The decline in production was dampened by building construction, which decreased by 1.5 percent year-on-year, while engineering constructions decreased by 14.4 percent,” said Radek Matějka, director of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Industry, Construction and Energy Statistics of the CZSO.
Building authorities issued 6,006 building permits in February, which is exactly 13 percent less year-on-year, but the indicative value of these permits increased by 5.3 percent to 41.9 billion crowns.
Year-on-year, almost five percent fewer apartments were started.
“The decline is due to the category of single-family homes, where numbers have been falling since the middle of last year. On the contrary, more apartment buildings were started, especially in Prague,” commented Petra Cuřínová, head of the CZSO’s Department of Construction and Housing Statistics.
On the contrary, 17.2 percent more apartments were completed. Their number was 2678 apartments.
