“At 11:35 a.m., our operations center received information about a fire in the dormitory. We sent two professional firefighting units with five vehicles to the event, as well as a unit of volunteer firefighters,” said Jaroslav Mikoška, the spokesman for the South Moravian fire department.
At the scene, firefighters discovered that the fire had broken out in one of the rooms on the third floor of the building. A woman and a man, who were in the room when the fire started, ended up in the care of rescuers.
“Upon our arrival, the fire was partially extinguished using portable fire extinguishers and a wall hydrant was enough to extinguish it,” described the fire disposal spokesman.
Twenty minutes after the incident was reported, the responding units confirmed the liquidation of the incident and the ventilation of the interior of the building with positive pressure ventilation. According to the investigator, the initial damage estimate is 250 thousand crowns, the cause will be determined based on the results of further investigation.
