A few days ago, Donald Trump became the first ex-president of the USA to be charged in a criminal case. The former president, who wants to run for the country’s highest office again next year, pleaded not guilty in court last week.
The newly filed lawsuit accuses Cohen of breaching the attorney-client relationship by disclosing “confidential information” and “spreading falsehoods” about Trump in books, podcasts and other media appearances.

As noted by Reuters, Cohen has not yet responded to the accusations.
Since Trump took office in 2017, Cohen has served as his personal lawyer. He stated that then he would “do anything” to protect the president.
But his stance had changed dramatically by 2019, when he testified before a congressional committee. “I’m ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is,” he said at the time. “He’s a racist. He is a fraud,” he added.
At his trial in 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts, including campaign finance law violations.
One of the offenses was the payment of bribes to remain silent to two women with whom the married Trump allegedly had sexual relations. The lawyer was sentenced to three years in prison for this.
Donald Trump is accused by prosecutors in New York of falsifying dozens of financial records related to a payment to an alleged mistress at the height of the 2016 campaign.
The president from 2017 to 2021 also faces investigations for trying to interfere with the approval of the results of the last election and for the unauthorized possession of classified documents after leaving the White House.
