Česká pošta concluded a contract with Kosmos bike for the supply of 100 electric bikes in cargo configuration for less than eight million without VAT last December, HN pointed out with a link to the contract, which is available on the website of the State Watchdog organization.
According to the contract concluded with the state-owned enterprise, Kosmos bike states that the e-bike equipped with carriers and panniers can carry a total load of up to 155 kilograms, while the carriers and panniers of the e-bike alone can carry up to 60 kg of cargo.
According to the company Crussis, which produced the e-bikes, however, the amount of total load capacity is not possible. E-bikes were not originally built as cargo, so their load capacity is a maximum of 120 kg. The post office required a minimum of 145 kg (load + rider).
The Post increased the estimate of revenue from the sale of canceled branches by 250 million to a billion

“When loaded with carriers and cargo with a total weight of 60 kilograms, there would be only 60 kilograms left for a person using an electric bicycle,” Crussis company manager Petr Výkruta outlined the hypothetical situation in an answer to HN.
The company only recently learned that its e-bikes are used by postmen to deliver parcels.
“The supply of e-bikes was paid for by Kosmos bikes, and from our point of view, the deal was completed. What happens next with the taken e-bikes is purely their business,” stated Výkruta.
At the same time, he added that he is consulting with lawyers about the situation and is at least considering that Kosmos bike will point out that the maximum load of e-bikes is actually 35 kg lower.
News asked Czech Post spokesman Matyáš Vitík whether, based on this information, the company is concerned that e-bikes will often need repair due to overloading.
“According to the specification we received from the supplier, the wheels have a load capacity of 155 kg. If any problems should arise, we would solve them with the supplier according to the concluded contract,” replied Vitík.
The contract also includes spare parts or service
In the contract, which is valid for two years, it is stated that, in addition to the supply of e-bikes, Kosmos bike also undertakes to supply spare parts, carry out regular service inspections and provide warranty service.
It will be assisted by nine other service points throughout the country.
HN also discovered that Kosmos bike was the only one to apply for the tender for the supply of electric bikes. The parameters of the contract, which was announced in August 2021, were different at first.
As the record on the State Watch shows, the purchase of 260 e-bikes in cargo design was originally planned with a final price of 11.8 million crowns.
