“It’s about how international relations will be shaped in the future: by building a solid consensus based on a balance of interests or by aggressively and erratically asserting Washington’s supremacy,” Lavrov emphasized.
According to him, Ukraine has been a threat to Russian security for years. At the same time, he called Kiev a “criminal regime”. According to Lavrov, who also criticized the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine, the world has entered a much more dangerous situation than during the Cold War.
The Russian minister also accused the International Monetary Fund of turning into a body working to “achieve the goals of the United States and its allies, including goals of a military nature.” The UN is experiencing a deep crisis, and the US is to blame for this, as it “wants to destroy the architecture” of the organization, Lavrov, who chaired the UN Security Council meeting, said.
On the right sat Guterres
To his right sat the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Portuguese António Guterres, who accused Russia of “devastation” of Ukraine. Russia’s invasion violates the UN Charter and has caused “massive suffering” to the invaded country.
Guterres also complained that the current multilateral order of the world is under pressure like never before since the founding of the United Nations. “Tensions between the world’s major powers are at an all-time high,” warned the head of the UN, after which he called for a peaceful resolution of conflicts.
