The date of the US presidential election
In 2024, the 60th US presidential election will be held. The popular vote will take place November 5, 2024 and determines who each of the should then vote for 538 voters. The electorate then officially chooses the president. A majority is needed – 270 votes.
Any native-born American over the age of 35 who has lived in the US for at least 14 years can run for office. You can only win twice in your life.

Candidates
A common part are the primaries, which serve the parties for the pre-selection of candidates. It will not be clear until around the summer of 2024 who will officially win party nominations for the elections.
In addition to the two largest political parties in the United States, there are a number of smaller ones, sometimes referred to as so-called third parties. The most prominent of these are the Libertarian Party and the Green Party. Apart from Democrats and Republicans, however, no other candidate usually receives high voter support.
1. Joe Biden
President Joe Biden for a long time he talked about his interest in running for a second term, he officially announced his candidacy at the end of April 2023. He had previously announced that he would eventually choose Kamala Harris, who holds the office of vice president as the first woman and the first black person in American history, to be a partner. Biden is now the oldest US president and will be 82 years old at the time of the election. He is supposed to be discouraged from running by some of his members Democratic parties and is expected to face challengers in the primaries.

3. Donald Trump
Between Republicans the former president is running for the next nomination Donald Trump (in office 2017–2021). In the event of a triumph, he will become only the second president whose two electoral terms did not follow each other. Trump repeatedly questions his loss to Biden in the fall of 2020. He will be 78 in November 2024, just as Biden was at the time of the previous election.
However, he faces investigation for his part in the riots in the Capitol after the last election and suspicious financial operations, where he allegedly bought the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels so that an extramarital affair would not damage his public image. An expense that was supposed to increase his chances of success, but he did not declare as an election campaign expense.

4. Ron DeSantis
His opponent in the primaries could be Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, whose conservative rhetoric is close to Trump’s. However, he does not face the lawsuits that Trump became famous for as a businessman, and DeSantis is only 44 years old. Officially as yet republican the candidate did not register.
5. Nikki Haley
To party primaries, also for Republicans, however, Nikki Haley has already signed up. The former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador has been criticizing Trump for a long time.

7. Vivek Ramaswamy
In February 2023, entrepreneur, writer and political activist Vivek Ramaswamy also announced his candidacy. According to Politico, he was inspired by Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Ramaswamy would like to repeal the law that forces presidents to spend all money appropriated by Congress. He rejects the ideas of diversity or inclusion and social and environmental movements.

Postal voting and controversy
In 2020, postal voting, which has been used in the US since the 19th century, became a big topic. In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, interest in it increased significantly, which stretched the usually brisk census for several days. It has become the subject of lawsuits and claims of fraud. Additionally, the rules for voters vary from state to state.
