Altogether, the new coalition will have 37 votes, which is four more than the previous one. Jan Dohnal, the current deputy for transport from the ODS, will take the seat of the mayor of the city after Tomáš Macura. The agreement on the new coalition dragged on for almost a month.
“We finally managed to agree on a coalition on Tuesday evening. It also helped that we were pressed for time, because the council is on Wednesday,” responded Jan Dohnal, who has yet to be confirmed as mayor by the council on Wednesday.
“We knew that we had to resolve the situation and we were able to reach a compromise. I have to appreciate my colleagues from ANO who did not continue to insist on a majority in the council, that unblocked the situation,” he added.

The change at the head of the third largest city in the Czech Republic was forced by the crisis in Ostrava’s ANO, which was triggered by the public support of Petr Pavel during the presidential elections by the former mayor Tomáš Macura and the Moravian-Silesian governor Ivo Vondrák.
Everything culminated in the departure of Macura and Vondrák from ANO. However, while the governor stabilized the situation thanks to the support of the club of regional representatives, Macura and his deputy Zuzana Bajgarová were expelled from the club by the Ostrava representatives of ANO.
After them, another six people gradually left the club. All eight then founded a new club of representatives Go!!!
