The title was first published in 1924 and it is not without interest that in 1927 it became the first Agatha Christie book translated into Czech.
At present, it has also received a Czech audiobook form, and that is very successful. The indisputable merit of this is already the choice of performers. Actress Jitka Moučková is very convincing as the central person, the emancipated and fearless English girl Anne. Jan Šťastný and Zbyšek Horák do not stay in her shadow.
The Man in the Brown Suit is somewhat outside the traditional works of Agatha Christie, although in this respect she is no exception. It is known that the author sometimes indulged in diverse literary excursions beyond her usual genre. In this case, this escape represents a distinctly romantic love story, which is, however, artfully combined with a detective-espionage novel.
Young Anne witnesses a mysterious and suspicious death on the London Underground. She sets out on her own to follow the trail of this event, which brings her aboard a steamer bound for South Africa. But there are more mysteries and hard-to-explain events that often threaten even the life of a determined girl. Colonel Race also appears among the characters, who will eventually find his place in other books by Agatha Christie.
The plot continues on the African continent and uncovers a wide network of international criminals. It concerns both the theft of diamonds and the cachars of high politics. Sophisticated criminals understandably use various disguises, and the listener alternately suspects several possible perpetrators until the last moment. The audiobook is characterized not only by a distinct and pleasant romance, but also by humor and perspective, which is a grateful counterbalance to the deftly heightened tension.
