Around 2:00 a.m., the flames reached the building cells in Plotní street in Brno, firefighters fought the fire until the morning.
These were twelve connected uni cells, inside which eight people died. The police are investigating their identity, according to the investigators, they were probably homeless.
“According to the preliminary results of the inspection, people entered the building intended for demolition without authorization. After the fire broke out, they couldn’t find a way out of the heavily smoky area. According to the owner, the building was empty yesterday afternoon, homeless people were using it to sleep,” the police reported on Thursday afternoon.

The police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire itself. They have not yet commented on whether there are traces indicating a deliberate arson.
