South African Deon Meyer can do it. His new thriller Dark Stream is action-packed from the first moments, running like a video clip with fast cuts. It gradually calms down a bit, but only in content, not in narrative force. The freshness with which the views of the two main lines of investigation are alternated is both entertaining and functional.
