The officials, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity, said reaching the ultimate goal of a permanent cessation of hostilities would still be a long process, as the two sides were still “quite far apart.”
The Sudanese conflict, which broke out in mid-April, has so far claimed over 600 lives, according to the World Health Organization; more than 5,000 people were injured. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there are now over 700,000 internally displaced people in Sudan.
