Radar contact with the unidentified flying object, first reported on Friday, was lost near Rypin in central Poland. “Territorial defense forces have been sent to search,” the ministry reported, according to the Gazeta Prawna website.
Firefighters also knew about the sighting of the mysterious object, but they have not yet joined the search in the field. “The operation is now in charge of the operational command of the Polish armed forces,” informed army spokesman Witold Sura. “A relatively small group is conducting the search, but the army is ready to send reinforcements if necessary,” he added.
The Air Operations Center noted the appearance in Polish airspace of an object that flew in from the direction of Belarus. According to COP information, it is probably an observation balloon. Radar contact was lost near Rypin.

Poland shares a border with Ukraine, which has been resisting Russian aggression since last February. In November, two Poles were killed after a Ukrainian air defense missile accidentally landed in the east of the country. The Polish media also reported that in April, the debris of a Russian guided missile was found near Bydgoszcz, which apparently flew into Polish territory in December.
Given these incidents, national security will be one of the key issues in this year’s elections in Poland, Reuters noted.
Spy balloons have already caused a stir around the world this year. The US military shot down one of them, which was from China. Others appeared over Latin America. Observation balloons were also used by Western armies in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US also uses them to guard its borders and coasts.
