Trevlyn Smith of the emergency services told New Corp that the middle of the board bore bite marks. “A man is believed to have died after being attacked by a shark off Walkers Rock Beach,” police said, according to Fox News.
South Australian police announced on Monday that “on Sunday, officers found ‘suspicious objects'” near Walkers Rock, where the attack took place.
“In one case, it was a piece of neoprene clothing and the others appear to be small pieces of Styrofoam (apparently a surfboard material),” the police report said. The items were subjected to forensic examination.
After speaking with Baccanella’s family, police will continue to search Walkers Rock and surrounding beaches for several days after high tide. Because of it, it is likely that any remains could be washed ashore, and not carried into the ocean.
