“The Russian armed forces do not fight the civilian population and do not abuse the civilian population, unlike the Ukrainian armed forces,” Nebenzya said quite seriously, as if the world had not seen the consequences of Russian attacks not only on the front but also in the rear, when the energy infrastructure was repeatedly destroyed.

Nebenzja is right about one thing, the Ukrainians are also attacking the occupied territories, where civilians are also dying. However, the Ukrainians mainly attack military and logistical infrastructure, such as fuel and weapons depots or troop formations. Sometimes – unfortunately – civilians also die in these attacks. However, they never waged a campaign aimed at breaking civilian morale.
Depriving the Ukrainians of energy supplies before the winter season, on the other hand, was Moscow’s unconcealed goal, and in this spirit Russian propaganda was also expressed on television screens in reports describing strikes on Ukrainian power plants and other infrastructure as a legitimate means of struggle.
Russia has more people and technology. Whatever the Ukrainians do, it will be a huge success
A useless war
Mainly, however, the Russian representative completely ignored the fact that Russia violated the basic rule of the UN – member states are not allowed to launch an offensive war.
Instead, he raved about the “millions” of victims of Western wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. However, only one report wrote about a million victims in Iraq, which was based on an approximation based on a sociological survey of 2,000 Iraqis. The medical journal Lancet reported 654,965 deaths in the first three years of the war, but not only as a result of violence, and the journal PLOS Medicine reported 460,000 deaths, both direct and indirect, between 2003 and 2011. However, he tactfully kept silent about the victims in the Syrian civil war, where the Russian army was directly involved.
Western aid to Ukraine bothers Russia
Western military aid to Ukraine was a thorn in Nebenzy’s side, because of which the Russian generals failed to fulfill their plans even after more than a year. He complained, according to TASS, that while Ukraine can be helped, Russia can’t: “Recently (German Foreign Minister) Annalena Baerbock said that possibly the supply of weapons by third countries to Russia would be unacceptable and tantamount to involvement in the conflict.”

“And what about the fact that the entire Western military machine is working to continue the war? This is just another direct admission of the West’s direct involvement in the conflict,” Nebenzya claimed, noting that the West was helping the attacked country that Russia had attacked.
Then Nebenzya tried to disband the coalition by suggesting that the Ukrainians will never be able to repay the Western aid: “A huge amount of money is allocated to Ukraine through the EU and Washington and is driving it into a debt trap. Western solidarity with Ukraine is not free, ordinary Ukrainians will have to repay this money. Ukraine’s foreign debt rose to a record $132 billion in 2022, or 89% of GDP, and will reach 100 percent at the end of this year.”
But he was right when he said: “We are witnessing a degradation of trust in an organization that is supposed to represent the interests of all member countries and be an example of impartiality and integrity, and its staff must act in accordance with Article 100 of the UN Charter.”
Indeed, the Russian representative uttered these words at a time when Russia presides over the UN Security Council despite having launched a war of aggression.
