A quirky constructor from the city of Bloomington, in the southern part of the Minneapolis metropolitan area, boasted of the completion of his latest project, a beer-powered motorcycle, a few days ago. In the past, according to the UPI server, he also designed, for example, a rocket-powered toilet or a jet coffee machine.
But while he may seem like a mad scientist, Ky Michaelson is actually just an enthusiastic DIYer who enjoys constructing strange but functional things. And one of them is a motorcycle that uses beer to power it.

However, this is not burned in the engine, because there is actually none here. A 53 liter drum (14 gallons) is used as a tank, which takes up a lot of space in the motorcycle frame, and another part of the drivetrain is a heating element.
This heats the liquid to a high temperature, simultaneously increasing the pressure in the barrel, and the hot mixture is then discharged through the exhausts. In essence, this creates a rocket drive, when rapidly escaping steam moves the machine in the opposite direction according to the law of action and reaction.
Buddy Michaelson demonstrates the first working version of the “beer bike”.
Of course, almost any liquid can be used for such a drive, but Ky Michaelson chose beer for a rather pragmatic reason. “I don’t drink beer, so I can’t think of a better way to use it than as fuel,” he said, noting that gasoline prices continue to rise.
His son Buddy also worked with him on the motorcycle. And although they haven’t tested their machine directly while driving, they estimate that it could reach speeds of up to 150 miles per hour, which is just over 240 km/h.
It is clear that this motorcycle cannot be put into regular use, but father and son intend to test it on a track intended for so-called dragsters. But they don’t plan any big racing with it, so after a few rides the bike will end up displayed in the family collection next to all the previous crazy inventions.
