The writer started writing fairy tales for children from Ukraine immediately after the Russian attack, in order to give at least a little joy to the small schoolchildren who had to flee. The publication had Czech text on one side and Ukrainian text on the other, and the books were given to the children last year by their Czech classmates at the beginning of the school year. Actors from Divadl pod Palmovkou also participated in the project, preparing the audio version.

Březina has already written fairy tales for children from the Czech Republic, now children from dozens of participating schools are drawing illustrations for the individual chapters. “We will have multimedia fairy tales again, friends from the theater have joined in, and the songwriter Honza Nedvěd Jr. composes songs for each fairy tale.
At the end of each chapter, there will be a QR code that will offer to play a music clip with children’s pictures in the background, as well as audio,” described Právu Březina.

According to Březin’s fairy tales for children from Ukraine, thousands of children are already learning this school year. After the writer presented his book at her school, the teacher Kateřina Figerová started working on worksheets in Czech for one of the fairy tales.
“I use worksheets during teaching and create them myself. Children from our school also drew pictures for Peter’s book, and I was sorry that it should end like that. When Petr was looking for someone who would like to add variety to the fairy tales, I contacted him,” Figerová recounted.
“I found out that there are companies that sell methodical sheets to schools. I thought we would give it to all children and teachers for free. We founded a Facebook group, which today already has over 800 members, mostly teachers who work with our methodology. Each is created for a specific fairy tale and is developed into Czech, music education, mathematics or physical education,” Březina calculated.
“In mathematics, children can count souls with a water bottle or buttons on a chimney sweep, for older children, fractions can also be incorporated into this, and in the second grade, teachers can focus on a craft in the method sheets.
It depends on the imagination, somewhere they even use it in computer science. We also have worksheets for children with specific learning disabilities or other handicaps,” reminded Figerová, who has a wealth of experience after 24 years of teaching experience. In addition to creating worksheets and methodology, Figerová teaches at an elementary school near Prague.
“I just enjoy it. When teachers send us photos and videos on Facebook of how they work with children, how they rehearsed a fairy tale as a play, it brings me joy. I am looking forward to Fairy Tales for Children from the Czech Republic, and I would also like to have a methodology for children from special schools, for whom ordinary worksheets are too complicated,” she said.
“Children are happy with fairy tales and worksheets, and that gives me energy to continue the project,” added Březina, adding that fairy tales are not only sponsored by the Ministry of Education, but also supported by some regions or cities.
