According to the Independent server, it is not clear what actually caused the fight, and even the police subsequently did not provide more detailed information, such as which airline the passengers arrived with. However, the verbal exchange resulted in a genuine fight, where several women and a few men were fighting en masse.
Women pushed each other, pulled each other’s hair, while men at a nearby conveyor belt were outright beating each other, punching each other or throwing themselves onto the belt. Bystanders should have urged the passengers to stop fighting, many of them also called airport security.
“A verbal dispute escalated on the lower level of Terminal 3 when two assailants assaulted the 24-year-old victim,” police said, adding that both passengers were arrested, taken into custody and charged.
The airport provided only a piecemeal statement on the incident, stressing that safety always comes first. “We are working closely with all of our federal partners to ensure that everyone is safe when visiting our facilities,” Chicago airport officials commented.
