This follows from information on the website of the transport company (DPP). The condition of the cable car is checked by DPP regularly every year. Currently, he is also preparing to repair the track and replace the cars with new ones.
The transport company carries out maintenance and revision of the cable car every year regularly in the spring and then in the autumn. During the lockout, the company’s employees check the condition of the cars, the track and other equipment.
In the future, the capital is planning to renew the cable car cars, which will have a new design. Current cars still have original chassis from the 1930s. In the eighties, a new body was made for them and the cars are on the edge of their useful life. Two cars will be produced for DPP in Switzerland for 137.7 million crowns by the Austrian-Swiss group Doppelmayr/Garaventa. Their appearance came from a design competition in which the studio Anna Marešová designers succeeded. According to the city’s plans, the first passengers should ride the modernized cable car with new cars in 2025 at the latest.
The cable car to Petřín was launched for the first time in the summer of 1891 on the occasion of the Jubilee National Exhibition. During its existence, it had two long shutdowns. In 1916, it stopped due to the World War, the operation was resumed in 1932. In 1965, extensive landslides destroyed the line, and the cable car started again in 1985. At the turn of 2015 and 2016, the line underwent a significant repair.
