On Thursday afternoon, the doctor’s protest at Bulovka was reflected in the care of patients from Prague and the Central Bohemia region for the first time.
This is where most ambulances in the entire capital are headed, but as of 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, the hospital was not accepting serious cases.
“During the night, we had two patients that we redirected to other hospitals,” Jana Poštová, spokeswoman for the Prague rescue service, told Nauzal.
The hospital has not been able to receive patients in serious condition since Thursday afternoon because some of the doctors in the ARO and emergency departments there did not agree to the appointment of a new primary care officer and refused to continue working overtime.
For example, patients go to Vinohrady or the General University Hospital. But Bulovka took over standard cases even during Thursday without any problems.
“For the last few days, it has been happening to us that doctors tell us at the very last minute that they will not be on duty and go home, even if the primary care officers have given the nod to the duty,” Jan Kvaček, director of FN Bulovka, told Seznam Zprávám.
At the same time, he admitted that they had to deal with a similar unexpected situation once before. “The red line was crossed for the first time on Tuesday. As recently as Monday, three primary care doctors confirmed that they would be on duty, but a few hours before starting, they announced that they were going home,” Kvaček added.
According to the director of the hospital, even on Thursday, the stoppage did not last long, but about two hours.
“We have not received official information that they are able to receive again,” Poštová, the spokeswoman for the rescue service, pointed out.
The ambulance reports every patient
On Friday, Bulovka was accepting patients again. But she arranged a change with the emergency services. While the operation center normally notifies only serious cases, now Bulovce reports every patient in advance.
“Right now it works without restrictions. We’ll see what happens next,” Poštová hinted towards the afternoon and evening hours.
The problem with the lack of doctors arose in Bulovka due to the appointment of a new primary care and emergency department. A number of doctors did not agree with the course and results of the selection process and refused to continue working overtime because of this.
According to the hospital, this is a violation of the Labor Code, but doctors and health unions say otherwise. FN Bulovka gave in to the doctors and announced a new tender. Until its end, the department is headed by the temporary headmaster Pavel Jánský.
