Construction work could begin in 2026 at the earliest. However, it is not yet clear how much the two-kilometer-long section will cost. City spokesman Roman Konečný told ČTK today.
The first part of the 1,497 meter cycle path has been in operation since 2019. It leads from Oldřišov to the border with Opava. From there, the bike path should continue along the route of the current dirt road.
“Our goal is to process the project documentation for the remaining section of the Opava – Oldřišov cycle path, in the cadastral territory of Kateřinka,” said Opava councilor for transport Petr Popadinec (ANO). He added that the management of Oldřišov has long sought to continue this route, and the people of Opava are also interested. “However, we had to align our interests with the interests of farmers who actively farm in this area. We finally managed to do that. Therefore, we can start project work on this building,” said the deputy.
A new cycle path is also planned between Opava and Raduní. In September 2022, representatives of both local governments signed a cooperation agreement, where they pledged to solve this problem together. Opava has already commissioned a technical study in this regard. Raduň then asked the region for a subsidy for the acquisition of project documentation. That too should be ready within a year.
“Currently, the cycle path between Malý Hoštice and Chlebičov is closest to realization. The city obtained a valid building permit for this construction in August of this year,” added Martin Dostál from the Department of City Development and Strategic Planning of the Opava City Hall.
