The repair of the collection greenhouses, excluding VAT, will require an investment of approximately 120 million crowns and the palm greenhouse 45 million crowns. Today, ČTK obtained the information from documents for representatives, who will discuss the city’s contribution to the project documentation for these planned investments on Monday next week.
“The greenhouses are in poor technical condition and at the same time their operation is very energy-intensive,” reads the report to the representatives. The reconstruction of the greenhouses should be financed with the help of a subsidy from the modernization fund or operational program focused on the environment. The project preparation will also be financially expensive, which is expected to cost a total of 15.7 million crowns without VAT. Next week, representatives will discuss the councilors’ proposal that the city should provide 8.3 million crowns from its budget for the Flora Exhibition Center for project preparation.
Collection greenhouses Výstaviště Flora Olomouc is one of the oldest greenhouses in the Czech Republic. The largest and oldest of the greenhouse complex is the palm greenhouse, which was built between 1927 and 1930 and is declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The neighboring cactus greenhouse in Smetana Sady was built together with the tropical greenhouse in the 1950s. It was opened on August 18, 1962 at the opening of the national horticultural exhibition.
In addition to the collection greenhouses, the Flora Exhibition Center also manages a botanical garden and a rosary. Almost 180,000 people visited these tourist destinations last year, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent. On the list of the most visited tourist attractions in the Olomouc Region last year, greenhouses, a botanical garden and a rose garden took fourth place.
