People can also go on a festive boat cruise along the Dalešická dam and taste this year’s young wines. Their tasting will be in the cathedral and on Charles Square in Třebíč. Similar to other towns in the region, Třebíč is also planning a procession led by the figure of St. Martin. This follows from the information of the organizers.
Part of the program in Třebíč will be a performance by the Brno band Django jet playing mainly dance swing and French gypsy jazz, a performance by a historical fencing group, a concert for children performed by the band Bombarďák and a performance by Gromba cymbal music. Saint Martin arrives at 5:00 p.m. The program will start at 11:11 with the opening of St. Martin’s wines.
Jihlava is also planning to start at the same time. In addition to concerts, the fair on Masaryk Square will include theatrical performances and fireworks. For entertainment, people can come to Věžní street and Jan Masaryk Park, from where the parade will start at 5:00 p.m. There will be live music on the route, giant puppets, theater actors, musicians will join the procession, and angels will welcome Martin in Matky Boží Street. The parade and subsequent fireworks traditionally attract thousands of visitors. This year, the organizers extended the route so that the crowds could watch the parade in more comfort.
The Jihlava event is also connected with charity. With every St. Martin’s roll purchased, visitors will contribute to the Adapta service, which the Jihlava Regional Charity helps people with mental disabilities. “Last year, the charity managed to collect almost 50,000 crowns, and I believe that this year we will at least double this amount. Saint Martin is a symbol of charity, and we want to thank him for bringing us chocolate coins for children, light and energy for the winter months,” said Vojtěch Kolář on behalf of the organizer.
In Pelhřimov, only the House of Children and Youth commemorated St. Martin with a smaller event in the past two years. According to the Director of Cultural Facilities of the City of Pelhřimov, Martin Ecler, Pelhřimov has prepared a richer program in the city center this year. It will start at 15:00 on Masaryk Square. It will include quizzes for children, who will be able to make lanterns, musical performances, demonstrations of historical fencing and talks about the meaning of the saint. And also a scene with the arrival of St. Martin and his entourage on horses. “Because of this, we scrapped the original plans with the fires and drums so they could pass the horses as quietly as possible,” Ecler said.
Processions with the figure of St. Martin are also being prepared for Saturday in Jemnica, Třešt and Žirovnica. They will also commemorate the holiday with a lantern parade in Havlíčková Brod, Pacov or Kamenice nad Lipou.
It is possible to complete the St. Martin’s float on the Dalešická dam by boat Horácko. It sets sail at 10:00 a.m. from Kramolín wharf. Reservation is required.
