The events will be held the day before the national holiday, November 16, university spokeswoman Petra Svěráková told ČTK today.
“We don’t always realize that where we are now, the way we study and the memories we create not only during studies, we owe to the people who were here before us and fought so that we can now live the life we know. I myself am very grateful to them for the fact that I can,” said student and project manager Eliška Bubáková.
The gathering in front of the rectory building will begin at 3:00 p.m. “There will be light refreshments and an accompanying musical performance. All participants will be welcomed by the management of the University of Zlín, including the president of the Student Union of TUB, with their speeches, during which tricolors and candles will be distributed,” said the spokeswoman.
This will be followed by an accompanying program at two locations. “The feature film Havel will be shown in the hall of the Faculty of Humanities. A historical quiz will be held in the student club of the U7 building, followed by a so-called indoor bonfire with a guitar,” said Svěráková.
The students will also create an art installation in the rector’s building, where students, employees and visitors to the university will be able to symbolically hang a key and give their thanks to those who have contributed to freedom and democracy.
“The management of the university will also take part in the memorial assembly for the 34th anniversary of the Day of the Fight for Freedom and Democracy, which will be held a day later, on Friday, November 17, at 10 a.m. at the Monument to the Victims of Totalitarianism on Náměstí Míru in Zlín,” said Svěráková.
