After the victory over Moldova at the Androva Stadium in Olomouc, the Czech national football team qualified for EURO 2024 in neighboring Germany. David Douděra, Tomáš Chorý, who assisted Douděr for the first goal, and captain Tomáš Souček, who added the third goal at the end of the match, ensured the victory of the national team with their goals.
From the fifty-fifth minute, the Moldovans played by ten. Vladyslav Baboglo had to leave the pitch after the second yellow card.
The Czech Republic advances from Group E together with Albania. Surprisingly, Poland ended up in third non-advancement place, having lost the chance to advance to the final tournament from the qualification after a 1:1 draw with the Czech Republic on Friday.
The national team was not only under football pressure. They have been facing a scandal since Sunday, when a trio of representatives, defenders Jakub Brabec, Vladimír Coufal and striker Jan Kuchta, visited a night club in Olomouc, thus violating the internal rules of the national team (we wrote about it here). All three were immediately expelled from the team and were absent from the field today.
The scandal only fueled speculation about the atmosphere in the team and the position of coach Jaroslav Šilhavý. In recent weeks, Šilhavý has faced criticism for, among other things, the poor performance of the team, communication with journalists and the public, or the handling of the situation surrounding the representative and player of Italian Fiorentina, Antonín Barák, who had disagreements not only with coach Šilhavý, but also with team leader Tomáš Pešír.
