The Australians are the cricket world champions again. The most successful country, winning the championship for the sixth time, defeated the host country India in the final.
The match was played at the largest stadium in the world in the western state of Gujarat, and according to the BBC, over 130,000 fans watched it there. The hopes of millions of Indians who watched the match on television screens, but Australia dashed. At the same time, India went undefeated through the entire tournament until the final – Australia, on the other hand, lost the opening two matches.
Cricket is the most popular sport in India, which last won the World Cup in 2011, the British website also noted.
