Prague 1 City Hall installed signs prohibiting entry to a large part of the Old Town between 10 pm and 6 am. The aim is to reduce the noise that disturbs local residents at night. Prague 1 councilor for transport Vojtěch Ryvola (ANO) said this to ČTK.
The adopted measure actually covers the entire area between Dvořák embankment, Pařížská, Staroměstské náměstí and Revoluční. Residents of Dlouhá, where a large number of popular night clubs are located, have been complaining about noise for a long time.
According to the councilor, the cars of the traffic service, local residents or taxis will still enter the area, but police officers will be able to stop everyone and check that they have a reason to be there. The move was made by the management of the town hall without informing about it in advance. According to Ryvola, this was to avoid the heated discussion that often accompanies traffic measures. The councilor added that the measure applies from today and the town hall consulted with the city police in advance, who are ready to start inspections.
