However, the operators of the centers are currently testing the technology and expect that the snowfall will be gradual. If the weather permits, the winter season in the region should start in December, according to lift operators for ČTK.
Snowing of the Horal slope was started at night by the Razula Ski Area in Velké Karlovice in the Vsetín Region, which belongs to the Valachy Resort. The snow cannons were still in operation there this morning. The night temperature in the resort dropped to minus four degrees Celsius. “We want to continue snowmaking on the weekend as well. We would like to start the season from December 15, when we expect the first ski courses for schoolchildren from the region, and guests on Christmas and New Year’s stays are also looking forward to skiing,” said the head of the center Lukáš Hajko.
Last year, they launched the snow cannons in the area three days earlier than this year. A few days ago, the first natural snow also arrived in Velké Karlovice. However, the Razula slope, which is also part of the Valachy Resort, will not be in operation. “However, it can be used by ski alpinists, just like last season. All accompanying services, including ski school or snow tubing, are concentrated on the Horal family slope, it is mainly used by families with children or beginners,” said Michal Vala, sales and marketing director of the resort.
The Troják u Rajnochovice resort in the Kroměříž region also used the freezing night for the first snowmaking before the new season. “Typically, at the first frost, we immediately try the technique and go. We have to do something. But it is quite early, the forecasts are uncertain,” said Jakub Juračka, the operator of the complex.
According to him, if the weather permits, it could be possible to ski on Troják from the middle of next month. “If the forecast is long-term freezing, we will make snow as much as possible. And if there is any warmth there again and it should melt for us, we will open it operatively right away so that we don’t lose the snow. If people ski on it, it will survive,” said Juračka.
In the night of today, it also started to snow in the ski area in Stupava in the Uherskohradišť region. “We turned it on, too. Tonight it cleared for a while, then it warmed up and it wasn’t too cold. Some snow remained on the slope, but we have made very little of it so far,” said the operator of the complex, Lubomír Orel.
They would like to start the new ski season in Stupava as soon as possible. “As soon as we get snow, we will start right away,” added Orel. The winter season at the resort usually starts around mid-December. The site in the Chřiby Mountains has been one of the first to open it in the Zlín region for several years, last year it was on December 16, and the year before on December 10.
