The Russian Ministry of Justice has added former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, who is currently critical of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, to the list of foreign agents. His inclusion on the list was reported by the Meduza portal on Friday.
Kasyanov served as prime minister during the first years of President Vladimir Putin’s tenure. After his removal from office in 2004, he joined the opposition. The Russian Ministry of Justice explained his inclusion on the list by allegedly spreading materials of other foreign agents, speaking out against Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine or speaking on “information platforms operated by foreign structures”.
Those designated as foreign agents must specifically label any material they post and are under strict surveillance by the authorities.
