A bus carrying students went off the icy road into a ditch near Rejchartice in the Šumpers region shortly before noon today. Two were injured in the accident. The bus remained tilted and was in danger of overturning. Therefore, the passengers broke the windows and gradually got out of the bus. The ambulance service took the injured students to the hospital, fire department spokeswoman Lucie Balážová told ČTK.
The bus crashed on the road between Rejchartice and Kopřivna, where there are sometimes sharp turns. 49 students, three teachers and a driver were traveling in it. The wrecked bus was tilted in the ditch in such a way that the driver could not open any of the doors.
“As the bus was in danger of overturning, the passengers broke the windows and created escape routes. They gradually got out before the arrival of our units,” said Balážová. Firefighters disposed of operating fluids that leaked from the bus during the accident. “We called a spreader to the site to ensure the arrival of a replacement transporter and rescue equipment,” Balážová pointed out.
