It will be on display from today until January 21 in the museum building. Visitors will also see a mechanical model of a Christmas tree made by Jaroslav Melich in 1925 or an original wooden crib by Jiří Merta, the creators of the exhibition said in a press release.
“The exhibition wants to stimulate visitors’ interest in our traditional Christmas customs and traditions, but above all to show them the fine mechanical work, patience and skill of the authors of the individual exhibits included in the exhibition,” said its author Petr Nekuža.
Visitors can take a look at, for example, a mobile blacksmith’s, cooper’s or carpentry workshop, or see Šebel’s models of technical buildings, a model of a windmill, a mining tower, as well as models of technical equipment such as steam engines or a stationary electric motor.
“We support interest in Czech traditions and at the same time the development of technical skills of children and adults,” said educator and curator at TMB Zbyněk Rederer. The exhibition will also present historical mechanical toys from the 1930s to the 1980s. “Especially older visitors certainly remember the toys they often got under the tree,” added Rederer.
They also organized a Christmas-themed exhibition in Letohrádek Mitrovských, where from December 12 to January 14 a traditional nativity scene exhibition will open, this time from the collection of Zdenek Jílek and his friends. Those interested can see another exhibition of nativity scenes in the vestibule of the Catholic House in Brno-Žebětín from December 8 to 10.
Charitable Christmas postcards are displayed in the Jiří Mahen Library in Brno. Templates for postcards with Christmas motifs were created by small artists from the ArteSvět studio for children from the SOS Children’s Village Brno. They painted them with dry pastels and watercolors. Views will be available for purchase during the duration of the exhibition and the proceeds will go to support children in the SOS Children’s Village Brno. The exhibition is accessible during the loan period until the end of the year.
