The parental allowance will probably increase to 350,000 crowns from January 2024. The Senate approved it today as part of the amendment on state social support. The increase of 50,000 crowns will only apply to parents of children born from the beginning of next year, the payment of the allowance will be shortened from four years to three years. The amendment, which is also supposed to simplify communication with labor offices, will now be signed by the president.
The government has proposed increasing the contribution by only half the inflation recorded from the last increase in the benefit in January 2020 to March this year, i.e. by 16.5 percent. The opposition failed with proposals for a higher increase or extension of the allowance to parents of already born children.
According to Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL), the impact of the increase on the state budget will amount to approximately 400 million crowns next year. A year later it will be 2.2 billion crowns, in 2026 approximately four billion crowns and in the following years 5.5 billion crowns.
