It will also be possible to share self-produced electricity at another transfer point, for example from a cottage to an apartment. The amendment to the Energy Act, which is supposed to make this possible, was approved by the Chamber of Deputies on Friday. All 162 MPs present from all parties voted for her. It still has to be discussed by the Senate and signed by the president. The innovation is also intended to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The approval of the amendment to the Energy Act was the last point of the Chamber’s deliberations on Friday. The current meeting ended at this point. Deputies will meet again on Tuesday, December 12.
According to the Minister of Industry Jozef Síkela (STAN), today’s approved innovation will strengthen the energy independence of each citizen and the entire society, make it possible to reduce energy expenses and help the environment. Members of such a community will produce energy from renewable sources and share it with each other.
The approved amendment introduces energy communities as new market participants. The basis of these communities, which will become a legal entity, cooperative or association and will be registered with the Energy Regulatory Office, will be the joint production of energy, for example by solar or wind power plants, and its subsequent sharing among members. This will be, for example, the sharing of energy between households or different communities, such as municipalities, schools, offices or businesses.
