Ski area Špindlerův Mlýn started the ski season today. Thanks to the cold weather and snowfall in recent days, this happened a week earlier than originally planned. Hundreds of skiers have been on the slopes since this morning, Vendula Kalenská from the center told ČTK.
Skiers have at their disposal four kilometers of downhill slopes with up to 50 centimeters of snow. The red Medvědín slope and the Machytka na Mísečky slope are open.
“By morning, several more centimeters of snow fell. Skiing is comfortable without queues at the cable cars,” said Kalenská. The official opening of the ski season with an entertainment program, the traditional Špindl SkiOpening, will take place in the Špindlerův complex Svatý Petr on Saturday, December 9.
Skiing started today in other resorts as well. One of them is the Malá Úpa ski resort on the Giant Mountains. “It’s the start of winter that we won’t remember,” said the lift operators from Maloup. They also opened a children’s park with a covered carpet strip for the weekend. The Pomezky slope should already be in daily operation.
The Říčky resort in Orlické hory also started the season today. “There are 30 centimeters of natural snow outside the slopes, of which five centimeters fell by morning, the lift operators from Říček said. Today they also intend to modify the cross-country tracks from Homole to Panská pole.
There is 50 to 70 centimeters of snow on the Krkonoše ridges. From November 26, the lowest, first level of avalanche danger on a five-point scale applies in the Krkonoše mountains. There is about 27 centimeters of snow on the crest of the Eagle Mountains.
