At least 50 civilians were killed in a series of Israeli strikes targeting two schools sheltering displaced persons in the al-Darraj neighborhood of Gaza City. Hundreds more were injured in the attacks, the Palestinian WAFA agency wrote.
The Salah Ad-Din and Martyr Assad Saftawi schools in the al-Darraj neighborhood are run by the UN Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA), according to Reuters. Dozens of bodies and wounded were taken to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in the nearby al-Zeitoun neighborhood.
Ambulance crews, according to Hamas, reported that they were facing “enormous difficulties” in evacuating the wounded due to intense Israeli shelling of the area.
The report could not be immediately independently verified, but an Israeli military spokesman said authorities were looking into the report.
